Contest Results:Paul Wolter Wins "Favorite Saltwater Fly Fishing Tip" Contest!May 18, 2011 - We're happy to announce that Paul Wolter of Naples, Florida is the winner of the Favorite Saltwater Fly Fishing Tip Contest, sponsored by Conway Bowman and the San Diego Visitors & Convention Bureau. As winner of the contest, Paul and a friend will receive two days of mako shark fly fishing with Captain Bowman, and two nights' stay at the Kona Kai Resort, a spectacular waterfront getaway located on beautiful Shelter Island in the Point Loma area of San Diego. The contest celebrates the recent release of Conway’s first book, The Orvis Guide to Beginning Saltwater Fly Fishing: 101 Tips for the Absolute Beginner. Paul’s winning entry concerned casting: "Rather than totally letting go of your flyline when shooting it, form an "O" with your fingers and let all the slack line pass through it. This allows for fewer knots/tangles going through the guides, and totally eliminates the common annoyance of the slack line wrapping around the reel when coming tight." In addition to his fishing trip, Paul will receive a 9-weight Access Rod and Access V reel from Orvis, the perfect tool for many saltwater adventures. Paul does most of his fishing around Naples, sightfishing to snook, chasing bass in local ponds and jumping baby tarpon in the Everglades. "I am 1,000% EXCITED to win the contest and get to fish with Conway," Paul said. "I have wanted to do the mako thing for a few years now, and had even previously asked some friends about splitting a trip with me this summer. My biggest fish on fly so far is about a 70lb tarpon, so I am hoping to surpass that with a whopper mako!". Paul, a friend and Conway are slated to chase makos sometime this summer. We’ll update you about how they do at a later date. |
